Turkish Angora

Nowadays, due to the diversity of different breeds of cats, very little attention is paid to such a breed as the Turkish Angora.

At exhibitions it is very rare to see these graceful animals, if they are even present. Unfortunately, no more than five copies of them are presented on the strength of them, and a mono-breed show is quite rare. But what can be said with certainty is that the cells with animals of the magnificent type are always very crowded. Few can be indifferent to such snow-white and aerial temple cats.

Each of the cat breeds has its fans and admirers, some people like the British and skitishi, some curls and sphinxes, and we, breeders of the Turkish Angora, really want people to know our breed closer to be interested in having gentle cat aristocrats at home . Maybe it will sound too pathetic in relation to this breed, but certainly those people who are interested in “royal” angora will never change it as a breed. Our breeders dream is that cats from professional nurseries engaged in angora take a worthy place not only in your hearts and homes, but also at international exhibitions.

Venice – Queen of the Adriatic. The gleaming city of canals and cats. (As a retreat, the wool of a real angora should flicker when a cat is walking). Tender relationship between Venice and cats established a long time ago. This cat came from ancient Egypt. After all, its history began on the land of the pharaohs. Then from European ports such as Venice, merchants and cats traveled to different countries of the world. And the farther from their homeland – Ancient Egypt, the cat was removed, the more its appearance changed.

In one of the mountain villages of Turkey, far from the noisy capital, the evolution of a new breed of cats took place. This village was famous for its magnificent goats with soft silky hair. In honor of the place where these goats were bred, from the wool of which a thin thread was spun, both goats and cats got the name Angora. The village was located on the site of today’s capital of Turkey – Ankara. This is where the pedigree of one of the most ancient cat breeds, the Turkish Angora, comes from. This is certainly the real aristocrats of the feline world.

It is believed that the mutation that resulted in the generation of the long-hair gene occurred in the cats of the Caucasus region and was the cause of the formation of the Angora cats. The second mutation (Angora albino), which formed the white color of the coat, further isolated and consolidated this breed. Long-haired Angora cats eventually spread to Asia Minor, Persia, Tibet, India, along trade routes and the Great Silk Road.

From the 16th century, Angora cats were brought to Europe as gifts, sometimes calling them Persian. These cats were considered an expensive and valuable gift for the elect. In Europe, and especially in France, Angora cats have been popular since the 18th century. It is no secret that they were kept in many royal palaces of Europe. Cardinal de Richelieu is one of the first breeders and passionate fans of the Angora cats. Marie Antoinette was no less their fan. There is a legend that when Marie Antoinette learned that she and her faithful photos were about to be overthrown and executed, her subjects prepared for the Queen to escape. He was to be made on two ships departing for America. The queen sent her favorite cats forward to the ships, but she did not have time to run. The ships still reached America and moored in the state of Maine. Thus, the cats came to the Americas. These animals adapted to the harsh climate of the state and began to breed with the aboriginal cats of the American continent. That was the beginning of a new breed, Maine Coon.

In the 19th century, Angora cats from Byzantium, along with Vikings along the trade route “from the Varangians to the Greeks,” came to Scandinavia, where they gave rise to the breed – the Norwegian Forest Cat.

In Russia, the cat, as attributed to rumor, hit during the Russian-Turkish wars. It is known that the Russian Empress Catherine II was distinguished by a loving attitude towards animals. He brought the “royal” angora as a gift to the empress – Potemkin, who was at that time in favor of Catherine.

Judging because the kittens of the Angora cat were very expensive, you can make the appropriate conclusion why this breed was considered “royal”. These animals were indicative of the respectability of their owners.

In principle, white animals are considered to be the real angora in Turkey, Russia and the UK. According to ancient Turkish belief: a white blue-eyed Angora cat is absolution for a person with whom she lives, yellow-eyed – kindness and tranquility in a house, green-eyed – peace in a family and balancing relationships, with particular preference given to different-eyed cats called in Turkey “Ankara” Cady “, which in the east are considered carriers of happiness and monetary well-being.
