Maine Coon breed – native, leading its pedigree from the big fluffy cats, tirelessly catching mice on North American farms. Hardy, good-natured and agile animals enjoyed the deserved love of the owners. They were nicknamed “Maine raccoons” for their fluffy long tail, and this name was given to the Maine Coon cat breed in the nineteenth century.
The standard describes this breed as follows: a strong, muscular cat with a rectangular body and strong paws, a long bushy tail reaches to the shoulders, soft thick hair is extended on the belly and shoulders, the muzzle is square, on large pointed ears of the tassel. The eyes are bright, round, most often golden or green. Wool waterproof, preferably a fluffy collar. Wool color can be almost anything, except for the “Siamese” color-point. Disqualification of the animal exhibition class is possible because of the “light” physique, strabismus, or the same length of wool. Thanks to a rather “wild” appearance and a “tiger” gait, these pets are very similar to a wild reed cat or a small lynx.
A distinctive feature of Maine Coon cats is weight, because on average they weigh about 10 kg, and the largest representatives of the breed reach even 15 kg. The Maine Coon cat is somewhat heavier and larger than a cat, there are practically no differences in the character between them. They differ calm, kind and balanced disposition. Their voice is low and pleasant, they rather purr than meow.
Usually, cats give birth without problems; there may be up to 6 kittens in the litter. Mei-kun kittens mature for a long time, and in a year they are not adults, but unformed teens. Knit cats can not earlier than one year old. Maine Coon cats continue to grow even after childbirth, up to four or five years old. In their souls, these giants, until old age, are kittens; Maine Coon retains playfulness and mobility for a very long time. Like other cats of aboriginal breeds, the Maine Coon is distinguished by good health and unpretentious food. It is only necessary to monitor the balance of the diet.
The maintenance of the Maine Coon in a city apartment is no different from the maintenance of ordinary cats. They can easily take care of their fluffy fur coat on their own, but it is recommended to comb them out in order to facilitate molting. Despite its impressive size, Maine Coon is very clever, so it is unlikely to cause harm to your property. They can choose the most unusual places to relax and surprise with their quirky poses during sleep. These cats are wonderful companions that get along well with all family members.
They are extremely friendly and enjoy playing with children, if they remember that animals should not be hurt. A cat of this breed will be friends with a dog, but rodents will have to stay away from her, because they are wonderful micelops from nature. This cat also perfectly adapts to living in a country house. Some owners believe that Maine Coon intelligence is much more developed than that of other breeds of cats.
