In English, pixie-bob means “short-tailed elf” (pixie is an elf, and bob is interpreted as a “short tail,” in the name of a forest cat from a legend). The first mention of the mysterious American cat-lynx are found in the works of Hemingway.

Kuril bobtail is a native breed of cats that have long lived on Sakhalin, the islands of Iturup and Shikotan. With a certain resemblance to the Japanese bobtail, the Kurilian bobtail cat breed is distinguished by a more “wild” appearance and a somewhat larger physique. The Japanese fellow is sleeker and lighter than the Kuril Bobtail, which weighs on average over four kilograms. Continue reading
